Biography:
Yami Yugi, also known as Dark Yugi, is a central character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. He is an ancient spirit of a Pharaoh from Ancient Egypt, whose soul was trapped within the Millennium Puzzle.
He first appears after Yugi Mutou solves the Millennium Puzzle, awakening the spirit. Yami Yugi emerges as an alternate personality of Yugi, taking over when Yugi or his friends are in danger, or when faced with a challenging duel in the Duel Monsters card game.
Yami Yugi is more confident, skilled, and strategic than the younger Yugi. He is determined to protect his friends and uncover his own forgotten past. His preferred method of dueling is aggressive, often employing high-risk, high-reward tactics. Throughout the series, Yami Yugi gradually learns about his past life and ultimately confronts his destiny.
