Gilderoy Lockhart, a wizard in the Harry Potter series, is a celebrated author known for his books detailing supposed encounters with dangerous creatures and his heroic deeds. He boasts of vanquishing monsters, solving mysteries, and winning numerous awards for his bravery and magical prowess.
Lockhart is appointed as the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during Harry Potter's second year. He is immediately popular with many students, particularly girls, due to his charming demeanor and celebrity status. However, his teaching skills are demonstrably poor.
His carefully constructed image is a fabrication. It is later revealed that Lockhart has been stealing the stories of other witches and wizards, erasing their memories with Memory Charms, and claiming their accomplishments as his own.
