Myconids, also known as fungus people, are sentient, peaceful creatures inhabiting the Underdark in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. They are a plant-like race with a fungal physiology, their bodies resembling humanoid mushrooms.

Unlike many Underdark inhabitants, Myconids are generally benevolent and strive to maintain a neutral, even friendly, existence with surface dwellers. They communicate telepathically through spores, exchanging thoughts and emotions with others, creating a unique communal awareness known as the Rapport Spores.

Myconid society is structured around circle leaders, called Sovereigns, who guide their communities. They have no need for material wealth or warfare, focusing instead on exploring the mysteries of the Underdark and expanding their understanding of the world through psionic connection and philosophical contemplation. They often cultivate rare and magical fungi within their underground realms.

While peaceful, Myconids are capable of defending themselves if threatened, employing fungal secretions and spores to incapacitate or deter aggressors. They are a testament to the diversity of life in the Underdark, presenting a stark contrast to the often ruthless denizens that surround them.
