The Mind Flayer, also known as an Illithid, is a quintessential monster in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. These aberrations hail from the Far Realm, a plane of existence beyond mortal comprehension.

Physically, Mind Flayers are humanoid with octopus-like heads, four tentacles surrounding a lamprey-like mouth. This mouth is used to extract and consume the brains of other creatures, their primary source of sustenance and the key to their power.

Illithids are highly intelligent and possess potent psionic abilities. They can control minds, levitate objects, and project bolts of psychic energy. They are masters of manipulation and often enslave other creatures to serve their purposes.

Their society is structured as a hive mind, with elder brains serving as the central control. These elder brains are massive, pulsating brains formed from the accumulated minds of deceased Illithids. They are a formidable threat, capable of controlling vast networks of thralls and influencing events across continents.
