The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings

Aragorn is not a character in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit. He is a central figure in The Lord of the Rings, a sequel to The Hobbit, set sixty years later.

Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is a descendant of Isildur, who cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. He is the rightful heir to the thrones of Arnor and Gondor, the kingdoms of men.

Known initially as Strider in the town of Bree, Aragorn is a Ranger of the North, a protector of the free peoples. He is skilled in combat, tracking, and healing. He is wise and noble, despite his long years wandering the wild. Aragorn is vital in the quest to destroy the One Ring and defeat Sauron.

He eventually embraces his destiny, claiming his inheritance and leading the armies of men against Sauron's forces. His marriage to Arwen Evenstar, an Elf, symbolizes the reconciliation of Elves and Men, marking the beginning of a new era for Middle-earth.
