Amuro Ray is the original protagonist of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, a civilian teenager thrust into war. Initially, he resided in the neutral space colony Side 7.

During a surprise attack by the Principality of Zeon, Amuro unexpectedly pilots the Earth Federation's experimental mobile suit, the RX-78-2 Gundam, displaying an innate and exceptional piloting ability.

His natural talent and quick learning curve stem from being a "Newtype," an evolved human with heightened spatial awareness and psychic abilities. This grants him remarkable reflexes and an intuitive understanding of the Gundam's controls.

Throughout the One Year War, Amuro serves as the Gundam's primary pilot, becoming a crucial asset to the Earth Federation. His piloting skills and Newtype abilities are instrumental in turning the tide of battle against Zeon.

While a brilliant pilot, Amuro struggles with the emotional toll of war and grapples with his responsibilities and the expectations placed upon him. He eventually matures into a seasoned soldier and a respected leader.
