Red Kryptomite, often simply referred to as Red K, is a synthetic form of Kryptonite from the DC Comics universe. Unlike green Kryptonite which weakens Superman, Red K has unpredictable and often bizarre effects on Kryptonians.

First appearing in *Superman* #139 (1960), Red K’s initial effects were frequently comedic, temporarily altering Superman’s powers or appearance. A single exposure could trigger a wide array of transformations, from growing an extra pair of arms to temporarily altering his moral alignment.

The effects of Red K are temporary, lasting anywhere from a few hours to a few days. The exact impact is determined by unknown factors, rendering Red K a dangerous and unpredictable substance. Superman would be unable to predict what would occur. Although generally benign, some effects are dangerous for Superman, such as the loss of his powers or increased aggression, or any of a myriad of other effects.

In more recent adaptations and depictions, Red Kryptonite has been portrayed as a far more potent and dangerous substance, with effects that are psychologically damaging to Kryptonians.
