The Lord of the Rings

Orcs, in the context of Middle Earth, are a malevolent race populating the dark corners of the world. First appearing prominently in The Hobbit, they are twisted and corrupted beings, inherently evil and serving the Dark Lords Morgoth and later Sauron.

Their origins are debated, with some lore suggesting they were originally Elves, tortured and twisted into grotesque forms. Orcs are characterized by their savage nature, brutality, and lack of compassion. They are typically depicted as physically strong but also cowardly, thriving in large numbers and under strong leadership.

They excel in dark crafts such as forging weapons and constructing fortresses in inhospitable lands. Functioning as soldiers and laborers, they are a crucial component of the Dark Lord's armies. Though individually often weak-willed, their sheer numbers pose a significant threat to the free peoples of Middle-earth.
