Kermit the Frog is a Muppet character created by Jim Henson. He's best known as the host of The Muppet Show, a variety program featuring sketches, musical performances, and celebrity guests.

Kermit's origins trace back to 1955 with a prototype constructed from Henson's mother's coat and ping pong balls for eyes. He evolved from a generic lizard-like creature to the now iconic frog.

Beyond The Muppet Show, Kermit has starred in numerous Muppet movies, including The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, and The Muppet Christmas Carol. He also appeared in Sesame Street, though less frequently after 1970.

Kermit is portrayed as an optimistic, though often overwhelmed, everyman. He serves as the de facto leader of the Muppets, attempting to manage their chaotic antics with patience and good humor. He is also known for his on-again, off-again relationship with Miss Piggy.
