Biography:
The Visible Man, also known as Marcus Williams, is a character appearing in both movies and television, primarily within the blaxploitation genre. He's typically depicted as an African American man who gains the power of invisibility.
The character's origins are somewhat murky, but a prominent example is the 1975 film The Invisible Man (also titled Black Invisible Man or Blaxploitation Invisible Man). In this film, a Black scientist working on an invisibility serum becomes his own test subject.
Following the experiment, he uses his newfound ability to fight crime and corruption, often targeting racist organizations or figures. This portrayal reflects themes of empowerment and social justice that were prevalent in blaxploitation cinema.
Though the name might suggest a direct connection to H.G. Wells' Invisible Man, the Visible Man character is typically a separate creation, inspired by Wells' concept but reimagined with specific relevance to the African American experience.
