Biography:
Sauron is the primary antagonist in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, specifically The Lord of the Rings. He first appears in *The Fellowship of the Ring* primarily as a looming presence, his influence felt through his agents and the corrupting power of the One Ring.
Originally a Maia, a spirit being created by Ilúvatar, Sauron was drawn to Melkor (later Morgoth) and became his lieutenant during the First Age. He mastered the arts of deception and manipulation, using his considerable power to control and corrupt others.
After Morgoth's defeat, Sauron sought to dominate Middle-earth. He forged the One Ring to control the other Rings of Power, leading to the War of the Last Alliance. Though his physical form was destroyed at the end of the Second Age, his spirit endured, seeking to regain his power and reassert his dominion until his final defeat in the Third Age.
