Lady Jessica is a pivotal character in Frank Herbert's *Dune* universe. She is a Bene Gesserit and the concubine of Duke Leto Atreides. Her most significant role is as the mother of Paul Atreides.

Jessica was instructed by the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood to bear a daughter, who would then be bred with a male heir to produce the Kwisatz Haderach, a being with prescience and immense mental abilities. However, driven by her love for Leto, Jessica disobeyed and bore him a son, Paul.

Her Bene Gesserit training provides her with exceptional mental discipline, physical prowess, and the ability to use the Voice, a subtle form of vocal manipulation. She teaches Paul many of these skills.

After the Atreides are betrayed and forced into the Fremen desert, Jessica and Paul find refuge with the Fremen. She uses her Bene Gesserit skills to become their Reverend Mother, undergoing the spice agony, further enhancing her abilities and altering the Fremen culture. Her actions significantly influence the political and religious landscape of Dune.
