Jerry is a fictional cartoon character, a brown house mouse created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. He is best known for his appearance in the Tom and Jerry theatrical animated short films, produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1940 to 1958. He often appears alongside his rival Tom Cat.

Jerry resides within the house that he shares with Tom. He is intelligent, resourceful, and opportunistic. These traits allow him to consistently outsmart and evade Tom's persistent attempts to capture him. Jerry is often portrayed as the sympathetic character, despite frequently instigating conflicts and engaging in mischievous behavior himself.

Throughout the series, Jerry's primary goal is survival and acquiring food. He displays a fondness for cheese, and often teams up with other animals, such as the toddler Tuffy, to achieve his objectives. He has achieved enduring popularity as a comedic foil to Tom, with their slapstick antics forming the core of the classic cartoon series.
