Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is the corpulent and malevolent ruler of House Harkonnen, a major aristocratic family in Frank Herbert's Dune universe. He is the primary antagonist, driven by an insatiable lust for power and fueled by a generations-long feud with House Atreides.

Vladimir is a master manipulator, renowned for his cunning intellect and ruthlessness. He uses fear and bribery to maintain control over his domain, the industrial planet of Giedi Prime. He views people as pawns to be used and discarded. His physical obesity is a symbol of his decadence and excess.

Central to the plot is his orchestration of the Atreides' downfall on Arrakis. The Emperor tasks the Atreides with ruling the desert planet and spice mining operations, which is secretly a trap set by the Baron. Vladimir conspires with the Emperor's Sardaukar soldiers to destroy House Atreides and reclaim Arrakis, ultimately leading to a galaxy-spanning conflict.

His cruelty knows no bounds; he delights in torturing and humiliating his enemies, including Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica. He embodies pure evil, his actions driven by vengeance, ambition, and a desire to crush any opposition to his rule. His ultimate goal is to usurp the Emperor and control the entire Imperium.
