Maxwell "Max" Shreck is a fictional businessman and antagonist appearing in the 1992 film *Batman Returns*. He was created specifically for the movie and does not exist in the main DC Comics continuity. Shreck serves as a corrupt and influential figure in Gotham City.

Shreck is portrayed as a ruthless industrialist who prioritizes profit above all else. He owns Shreck Industries, a powerful corporation involved in various enterprises, including department stores and energy production. His business practices are often unethical and environmentally damaging.

In *Batman Returns*, Shreck attempts to build a power plant that would secretly drain Gotham City's energy. He inadvertently creates both the Penguin and Catwoman, who later challenge his power and influence in the city. He eventually meets his end at the hands of Catwoman.
