Kaiju is a fictional character who first appeared in the 2013 film, Pacific Rim. A towering, monstrous creature originating from an interdimensional portal beneath the Pacific Ocean, Kaiju is a bio-engineered weapon deployed by a mysterious alien race known as the Precursors.
In Pacific Rim, the Kaiju are designed to devastate Earth's cities. Each Kaiju possesses unique physical characteristics and combat abilities, posing a significant threat to humanity. To combat the Kaiju threat, humans developed giant robots called Jaegers.
Kaiju is also featured in the 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and the Netflix anime series, Pacific Rim: The Black, continuing to serve as formidable antagonists in the franchise. These appearances further expand on the Kaiju's biology, origins, and the threat they pose to the world.
