Sai is a character introduced in the anime and manga series, Naruto Shippuden, as a replacement for Sasuke Uchiha on Team 7. He is a member of Root, a secretive and ruthless division of the Anbu Black Ops, trained to suppress emotions and operate solely on orders.

Sai's real name is unknown. "Sai" is a code name given to him by Danzo Shimura. He's an artist who uses his ninjutsu to bring his drawings to life, using ink to create powerful creatures and objects for combat and reconnaissance.

Initially, Sai struggles to understand and express emotions, leading to socially awkward and often offensive interactions. He is programmed by Root to follow orders and eliminates emotions, making him different from his teammates.

Throughout the series, Sai gradually develops genuine relationships with Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and others, learning about the importance of friendship and emotional connection. He overcomes his past and forges his own path, eventually becoming a valuable asset to the Hidden Leaf Village.
