Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, later Prince of Wahlstatt, (1742-1819) was a Prussian Generalfeldmarschall, best known for his leadership during the Napoleonic Wars. He began his military career in the Swedish army before being captured and joining the Prussian army in 1760.

Blücher gained notoriety for his aggressive tactics and unwavering resolve, earning him the nickname "Marshal Vorwärts" ("Marshal Forward"). He served with distinction in various campaigns, rising through the ranks to become a Generalfeldmarschall in 1813. His commitment to the war against Napoleon was unwavering, even in the face of setbacks.

His most significant contribution came during the Waterloo Campaign of 1815. Defeated at Ligny, Blücher, despite being badly bruised, rallied his troops and marched to support the Duke of Wellington at Waterloo. Blücher's timely arrival and aggressive attack on the French right flank proved crucial to the Allied victory, effectively ending Napoleon's reign.

Blücher was subsequently hailed as a national hero in Prussia and throughout Europe. He was awarded numerous honors and distinctions for his service and is remembered as one of the most important military figures of the Napoleonic era.
