A skilled horseman and charismatic figure, Murat rose through the ranks due to his bravery and tactical acumen. He played a crucial role in Napoleon's victories, often leading decisive cavalry charges that shattered enemy lines. He was rewarded with titles, including Marshal of France and Grand Admiral.
In 1808, Napoleon appointed Murat as King of Naples. He ruled the kingdom until 1815, initially implementing reforms but later becoming alienated from the Neapolitan population. After Napoleon's first abdication, Murat briefly aligned himself with the Allies but ultimately rejoined Napoleon during the Hundred Days.
Following Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo, Murat attempted to regain his Neapolitan throne but was captured and executed by firing squad in October 1815. Despite his ultimate failure, Joachim Murat remains a celebrated figure in military history, remembered for his audacity and cavalry prowess.
