Toad, known as Kinopio in Japan, is a character prominently featured in Nintendo's Mario franchise.

He is a mushroom-headed humanoid who often serves as a loyal attendant to Princess Peach. Toads are generally depicted as cheerful and helpful, though sometimes cowardly.

Toad's first appearance was in the 1985 game Super Mario Bros., where he appears as one of the Mushroom Retainers, and informs Mario or Luigi that the princess is in another castle.

Often seen in a vest and mushroom cap, Toads are common within the Mushroom Kingdom.
