Manuel Alfonso Rodrigo de la Rocha, often known as Empath, is a mutant character appearing in Marvel Comics. He first debuted in New Mutants #16 in 1984.

Empath possesses the mutant ability to manipulate the emotions of others. He can project feelings of intense fear, rage, love, or despair onto individuals within his vicinity. This power is often uncontrollable and used to torment or control those around him.

A sociopath with little regard for human life, Empath has been associated with villainous groups like the Hellions and the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club. His manipulation skills made him a dangerous adversary for the New Mutants, frequently using his powers to exploit their weaknesses and exacerbate internal conflicts.

While generally portrayed as an antagonist, occasional storylines have explored a potential for redemption, though his ingrained manipulative tendencies make it a challenging path. He is often seen working with other mutant villains due to his useful abilities.
