Imperial Psykers in the Warhammer 40,000 universe are humans with psychic abilities, vital to the Imperium of Man for navigation through the Warp (a dimension of psychic energy and chaos) and for psychic warfare.

These psykers are detected at a young age and brought to Terra for training. Not all survive the process, as they are vulnerable to daemonic possession. Those who pass become sanctioned psykers, bound by oath and duty to the Imperium.

Sanctioned Psykers manifest diverse powers, ranging from telepathy and telekinesis to precognition and offensive psychic attacks. However, all Psykers are considered potential threats, carefully monitored and controlled by the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, to prevent corruption and ensure their powers serve the Emperor.

Although there is no single character called 'Imperial Psyker' in the game, the first appearance of sanctioned Psykers in a Games Workshop product may be difficult to pin down precisely, given the gradual development of the setting. However, they were a well established part of the universe by the time of the second edition of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game.
