The Continental Soldier, a composite representation rather than a single individual, embodies the common infantryman of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Drawn from diverse backgrounds, these soldiers primarily hailed from farming communities, though artisans and laborers were also represented.

Enlistment terms varied, often for a year or less, creating a constant need for recruitment and training. They were typically young, with an average age in the early twenties, and motivated by a complex blend of patriotism, economic opportunity (promised land or bounties), and social pressure.

Equipment was often inadequate, particularly early in the war. Uniforms were scarce, leading to a patchwork appearance. They relied on muskets, bayonets, and minimal personal gear. Training was rudimentary, but they learned to fight effectively through experience and the influence of dedicated officers.

The Continental Soldier faced harsh conditions: disease, lack of supplies, and brutal combat.
