Freddy Krueger, the central antagonist of the Nightmare on Elm Street film series, is a fictional serial killer who attacks his victims in their dreams. Born Frederick Charles Krueger, his origins are rooted in a traumatic childhood; he was the illegitimate son of Amanda Krueger, a nurse who was accidentally locked in a ward with hundreds of criminally insane patients.

In his adult life, Krueger became a child murderer in the fictional town of Springwood, Ohio. He was eventually captured, but due to a technicality in the warrant, was released. Enraged parents took the law into their own hands, trapping and burning Krueger alive in the boiler room of a factory.

This death allowed Krueger to return as a dream demon. Fueled by fear and resentment, he invades the dreams of the children of the parents who killed him. By killing them in their dreams, he kills them in reality, perpetuating a cycle of violence and terror.

Krueger's signature weapon is a glove with razor-sharp blades attached to the fingers. He is recognized by his disfigured, burned face, and his sardonic, taunting personality.
