Sand, primarily known as Wesley Dodds, is a DC Comics character who debuted in New York World's Fair Comics #1 (1939). He is one of the earliest masked crime fighters of the Golden Age of Comics.

By day, Dodds is a wealthy and intellectual chemist. By night, he dons a gas mask and uses sleep gas to subdue criminals. His alter ego, Sand, is driven by prophetic nightmares that foreshadow crimes.

Originally, Sand operated solo. He later became a founding member of the Justice Society of America (JSA). His equipment typically included a gas gun, and his costume consisted of a trench coat, fedora, and the aforementioned gas mask, a look that made him a distinctive presence in the burgeoning superhero landscape.

Over the years, different characters have taken on the mantle of Sand, including his successor and protégé, Sanderson Hawkins (Sandy the Golden Boy), and, in the Vertigo imprint, a radically different, dream-based entity.
