Davy Jones is a fictional character from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He is portrayed as the captain of the ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman, and serves as a primary antagonist.

Originally a skilled sailor, Jones fell in love with the sea goddess Calypso. She tasked him with ferrying souls lost at sea to the afterlife. In return, he was granted immortality, with the condition that he could only set foot on land once every ten years.

When Calypso failed to meet him on shore after ten years, consumed by anger and heartbreak, Jones abandoned his duty. He carved out his own heart and locked it away in the Dead Man's Chest, effectively becoming immortal and invulnerable, but also cursed.

This act transformed him into a monstrous, cephalopod-like creature. He commanded the Flying Dutchman with a crew composed of similarly cursed souls, offering sailors a chance to postpone death by serving him for a century.

His tragic backstory and monstrous appearance make him a complex and memorable villain within the franchise, driven by betrayal and despair.
