Biography:
Sha Wujing, also known as Sandy, is a major character from the classic Chinese novel *Journey to the West*, and subsequently appears in numerous movie and TV adaptations of the story. He is a former General of the Heavenly Palace, banished to the mortal realm after accidentally breaking a valuable vase.
In penance for his crime, Sha Wujing is condemned to live in the Flowing Sand River, where he preys on travelers. He is eventually recruited by the bodhisattva Guanyin to become a disciple of the Tang Monk, Xuanzang. He joins Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) and Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) on their pilgrimage to the West to retrieve Buddhist scriptures.
Sha Wujing is often depicted as the most quiet and dependable of the three disciples. He is a loyal servant to Xuanzang and diligently protects him throughout their journey. His weapon is a crescent-moon spade, and he is known for his mastery of water combat. While not as powerful as Sun Wukong, Sha Wujing is a skilled fighter and crucial member of the team. Upon completion of the journey, he is rewarded for his faithfulness and becomes an Arhat.
