Kanao Tsuyuri is a prominent character in the manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a Demon Slayer and the Tsuguko (successor) of Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira. Initially introduced as a reserved and emotionally stunted individual, Kanao struggles to make decisions on her own, relying on a coin flip for even basic choices.

Her past reveals a traumatic childhood marked by abuse, leading her to shut down emotionally as a survival mechanism. She was purchased as a servant before being taken in by Kanae Kocho, Shinobu's older sister, who sought to heal her. Kanae gave Kanao a coin and told her to use it to help her decide when she couldn't.

Throughout the series, Kanao's interactions with Tanjiro Kamado and other Demon Slayers gradually help her to open up and develop her own will. She is a skilled swordswoman, possessing exceptional eyesight and mastering the Flower Breathing style, adapted from Water Breathing. Her character arc focuses on overcoming her trauma and discovering her own emotions and agency.
