Typical candidates are fast-jet pilots with several years of experience flying aircraft like the Tornado, Typhoon, or Hawk T1. They must possess above-average handling skills, precise formation flying experience, and strong communication abilities.

Selection involves a rigorous assessment process, including flying tests and interviews. Those chosen undergo intensive training to master the demanding Red Arrows routines, involving close-formation aerobatics and synchronized maneuvers.

Pilots typically serve a three-year tour with the Red Arrows.
