Luke Cage is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics' Thunderbolts series. Created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita Sr., he first appeared in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 in June 1972.
Originally known as Carl Lucas, he gained superhuman strength and durability after undergoing an experimental procedure while incarcerated. Upon his release, he adopted the name Luke Cage and became a hero for hire, often working with other heroes and eventually joining the Thunderbolts team.
