Mara Jade Skywalker, later Mara Jade, was a pivotal character in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, now Legends. Originally a powerful Force-sensitive agent known as the Emperor's Hand, she served Emperor Palpatine directly, undertaking secret missions and assassinations.
After Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, Mara was psychically commanded to kill Luke Skywalker, a command that haunted her for years. She initially blamed Skywalker for her loss of purpose and identity.
Over time, her path intertwined with Luke's. Forced to work together on various missions, they developed a grudging respect that blossomed into love. She eventually abandoned the Emperor's legacy and embraced the ways of the Jedi, becoming a powerful Jedi Master.
Mara Jade married Luke Skywalker and gave birth to their son, Ben Skywalker. She played a significant role in the New Jedi Order and the defense of the galaxy against various threats, including the Yuuzhan Vong. Mara Jade Skywalker was eventually killed by her nephew, Jacen Solo, who had fallen to the dark side.
