He Who Remains is a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introduced in the Disney+ series Loki. He is portrayed by Jonathan Majors.
He Who Remains is the creator and controller of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). He resides at the Citadel at the End of Time. His purpose is to manage the Sacred Timeline to prevent the rise of his more malevolent variants from different realities, who engaged in a multiversal war. He is essentially a Kang variant.
He offers Loki and Sylvie a choice: take over his role and maintain the Sacred Timeline, or kill him and unleash the multiverse with all its dangers, including his more dangerous variants. Sylvie ultimately kills him, leading to the branching of the timeline and the emergence of the multiverse.
