Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Lu Meng, a prominent figure in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, was a general serving under the warlord Sun Quan of Eastern Wu. He first appears relatively early in the narrative, establishing himself as a rising military talent within Sun Quan's forces.

Initially, Lu Meng was perceived as lacking scholarly pursuits, but upon Sun Quan's advice, he diligently devoted himself to learning. This transformation earned him respect and enabled him to better strategize and command his troops.

Lu Meng is best known for his successful invasion of Jing Province from Shu Han, which led to the capture and subsequent execution of the esteemed general Guan Yu. His cunning strategies and effective leadership were crucial to this victory, though his actions ultimately contributed to a major shift in the balance of power between the Three Kingdoms.

He dies not long after, apparently haunted by Guan Yu's ghost. Some sources state that he was poisoned to death, by Guan Yu's ghost possessing his body.
