Nute Gunray was the Neimoidian Viceroy of the Trade Federation during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. He was a key figure in the Separatist movement, manipulated by Darth Sidious to instigate conflicts that ultimately led to the Clone Wars.

Greedy and ambitious, Gunray's primary concern was the Trade Federation's economic interests. He readily employed blockades and even invasions to further his goals, such as the blockade of Naboo, which served as a catalyst for Palpatine's rise to power.

Gunray's political maneuvering and financial resources were instrumental in forming the Confederacy of Independent Systems, also known as the Separatists. He funded the Separatist droid army, providing the military might needed to challenge the Republic.

Despite his significant role, Gunray was often portrayed as cowardly and easily manipulated by his Sith allies. He was ultimately killed on Mustafar by Anakin Skywalker, acting under Darth Sidious's orders, marking the end of the Separatist leadership and the official end of the Clone Wars.
