Scratchy is a cartoon mouse character featured within the animated television show, The Simpsons. He is the perpetually victimized counterpart in the fictional cartoon series, The Itchy & Scratchy Show, a violent cartoon-within-a-cartoon that Bart and Lisa Simpson enjoy.
Scratchy's first appearance, alongside Itchy, was in The Tracey Ullman Show short, "The Bart Simpson Show," in 1987, before *The Simpsons* became its own series.
Scratchy's defining characteristic is his constant suffering and gruesome deaths at the hands of Itchy the mouse. He is typically portrayed as a hapless and innocent character.
