Biography:
Alec John Such (November 14, 1951 – June 5, 2022) was an American musician best known as the bassist for the rock band Bon Jovi from 1983 to 1994.
Prior to joining Bon Jovi, Such was a veteran of the New Jersey music scene, having played in bands such as the Message and Phantom's Opera, often alongside Richie Sambora. He managed the Hunka Hunka Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey, which was instrumental in the early careers of Bon Jovi and other local acts.
As Bon Jovi's bassist, Such contributed to the band's string of hugely successful albums, including "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey." He was responsible for the band name being formed from the lead singer, Jon Bon Jovi.
Such left Bon Jovi in 1994 and was replaced by Hugh McDonald. While his departure was attributed to a growing lack of passion for touring and performing, he remained on good terms with his former bandmates. He reunited with Bon Jovi in 2018 when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Alec John Such’s contributions were vital to the initial successes of Bon Jovi.
