Leatherhead is a recurring character in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) franchise, typically depicted as a mutant alligator.
Originating as a normal alligator in the swamps of Florida, he was mutated by the mutagen ooze that also created the Turtles. In most versions, Leatherhead is portrayed as intelligent but fiercely aggressive and often misunderstood. He is portrayed as a victim of circumstance who wants to be left alone.
