Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, commonly known as Moaning Myrtle, is a ghost residing in a girls' bathroom on the second floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was a Ravenclaw student during Tom Riddle's time at Hogwarts.

Myrtle was killed in 1943 after encountering the Basilisk unleashed from the Chamber of Secrets by Riddle. She had been hiding in a bathroom stall, crying over teasing from fellow student Olive Hornby, when she heard Riddle speaking Parseltongue. Startled, she looked out and directly at the Basilisk's eyes.

Following her death, Myrtle became a ghost and haunted Olive Hornby relentlessly until the Ministry of Magic intervened and she was forced to return to Hogwarts. She now haunts the same bathroom where she died, known for her wailing and generally miserable disposition.

Despite her often unpleasant nature, Myrtle has occasionally assisted Harry Potter and his friends, notably providing crucial information regarding the Triwizard Tournament egg and the Chamber of Secrets.
