Arishem the Judge is a Celestial, a cosmic being of immense power, in the Marvel Universe. He is one of the most prominent and arguably most important Celestials.
Arishem is responsible for evaluating the evolutionary progress of planets that the Celestials have seeded with life. He uses the Deviants as part of his experimentation, pitting them against the Eternals in order to drive evolution.
His role is to decide whether a planet and its civilizations are worthy of continued existence or if it should be purged to make way for new experimentation. His judgment is absolute, and his power is nearly unmatched, even among the Celestials.
Arishem played a key role in the creation of the Eternals, tasking them with protecting humanity and fighting the Deviants, and therefore managing the growth of Earth's population.
