Wenwu, also known as the Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), first appeared in the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). He is the immortal leader of the Ten Rings organization, a powerful criminal empire that has operated for centuries.
Driven by the power of the ten mystical rings he wields, Wenwu sought to reshape the world according to his vision. His pursuit of power and immortality led him to many dark deeds, but he also deeply loved his wife, Ying Li, and his son, Shang-Chi.
His wife's death changed him, and his brutal training of Shang-Chi eventually led to the son's defection. Wenwu's later obsession with hearing his deceased wife's voice ultimately resulted in the release of the Dweller-in-Darkness, a dangerous entity, and his own death while saving Shang-Chi.
