Chara is a significant, though often debated, character from the video game Undertale. They are the first human to fall into the Underground, a world inhabited by monsters, and are found by Asriel Dreemurr, the prince. Asriel takes Chara in, and the two become adoptive siblings.

Chara's past before falling into the Underground is largely unknown, but they are described as having "not the best reason" for climbing Mount Ebott. Their relationship with the protagonist, Frisk, is complex and dependent on the player's actions.

In a Genocide Route playthrough, Chara acts as a narrator, often exhibiting a desire for violence and destruction, leading to interpretations of them as a malevolent entity. Conversely, in Pacifist or Neutral Routes, their influence is less pronounced, and their intentions are more ambiguous. Chara's true nature and the extent of their influence on the game's events remain a subject of ongoing discussion and player interpretation.
