Black Knight is a Marvel Comics character, with several iterations existing throughout Marvel's history. The most prominent is Dane Whitman, the modern-day Black Knight.
Dane Whitman first appeared in The Avengers #47 (December 1967), created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. He inherited the Ebony Blade, a mystical sword passed down through his family, from his uncle Nathan Garrett, who was a supervillain also known as Black Knight.
Driven by a desire to restore his family's honor, Dane becomes a hero. The Ebony Blade, while powerful, carries a curse that can corrupt its wielder. Whitman, often struggles against the blade's influence and the legacy of his villainous uncle.
He has been a member of the Avengers and other superhero teams, and is often associated with stories involving magic, Arthurian legends, and other mystical elements.
