Biography:
The Great Ape, or Oozaru (sometimes called Big Fig), is a transformation unique to Saiyans in the Dragon Ball franchise. It is triggered when a Saiyan with a tail is exposed to Blutz Waves, typically reflected from a full moon.
The transformation results in a massive, ape-like creature of immense power, significantly amplifying the Saiyan's strength, speed, and overall fighting abilities. However, it also causes a loss of control, often leading the Saiyan to rampage indiscriminately.
Notable characters who have transformed into Oozaru include Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan. The transformation can be suppressed by destroying the source of Blutz Waves or by severing the Saiyan's tail.
Later in the series, Saiyans gain the ability to control the Oozaru transformation, harnessing its power without succumbing to its primal rage. This control is demonstrated by Vegeta in Dragon Ball GT when he becomes a Golden Great Ape and later a Super Saiyan 4.
