Renee Montoya, as portrayed by Rosie Perez in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is a detective formerly with the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD). She first appears in the film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
In Birds of Prey, Montoya is depicted as a tenacious, if somewhat disillusioned, detective struggling to be taken seriously within the GCPD. Her dedication to justice often puts her at odds with corrupt elements within the police force.
Following her departure from the GCPD, Montoya finds herself reluctantly allied with Harley Quinn and other women to protect a young Cassandra Cain from the criminal lord Roman Sionis, also known as Black Mask.
