Malcolm Merlyn, also known as the Dark Archer, is a recurring antagonist in the Arrowverse TV show Arrow. Played by actor John Barrowman, he first appears in the series pilot episode.
Merlyn is a wealthy businessman and skilled archer. He is secretly a member of the League of Assassins, trained by Ra's al Ghul. Driven by grief over his wife's murder, he plots to destroy Starling City with a device that causes earthquakes.
Throughout the series, Merlyn's relationship with Oliver Queen is complex. He is the father of Oliver's best friend, Tommy Merlyn, and often acts as both an enemy and a reluctant ally, motivated by his own self-preservation and a twisted sense of family.
