Adrian Veidt, also known as Ozymandias, is a complex and controversial figure from the Watchmen comic book series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. His first appearance was in Watchmen #1 (1986).
Veidt is a former costumed vigilante who retired to become a successful businessman and philanthropist. Possessing genius-level intellect, peak physical conditioning, and incredible strategic skills, he is considered "the smartest man in the world."
Driven by a desire to prevent nuclear war, Ozymandias orchestrated a catastrophic event, killing millions in New York City. He framed Doctor Manhattan for the attack, uniting the world against a common "alien" threat and averting global annihilation. While achieving his goal of world peace, he committed a horrifying act of mass murder, forcing the other Watchmen to grapple with the ethical implications of his actions.
