Mary Marvel, originally Mary Batson, is a fictional superheroine appearing in comic books published by Fawcett Comics and later DC Comics. She is the twin sister of Billy Batson, who transforms into Captain Marvel (Shazam).
Mary first appeared in Captain Marvel Adventures #18 (December 1942). When she speaks the magic word "Shazam!", she is struck by a magic lightning bolt that transforms her into Mary Marvel, possessing similar powers to her brother, including super strength, speed, and flight.
In some iterations, Mary becomes part of a team known as the Marvelous Five. She has remained a prominent character in the Shazam! family, often portrayed as a symbol of hope and empowerment.
