Loki, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a key antagonist and anti-hero within the franchise. He first appeared in the MCU in the 2011 film Thor.
Adopted as a child by Odin, the King of Asgard, Loki grows up alongside his brother Thor, unaware of his true Frost Giant heritage. Driven by a desire for power and a feeling of being overshadowed by Thor, Loki frequently schemes and manipulates events.
In The Avengers, Loki serves as the primary antagonist, using the Tesseract (Space Stone) to open a portal above New York City, allowing the Chitauri army to invade Earth. He is eventually defeated by the Avengers and taken back to Asgard to face justice. Despite his villainous actions, Loki's complex motivations and eventual acts of heroism have made him a fan-favorite character in the MCU.
