Arnold Shortman, often simply called Arnold, is the protagonist of the animated television series Hey Arnold! and the film Hey Arnold!: The Movie. He is a fourth-grader living in a boarding house in the fictional city of Hillwood, Washington.

Recognizable by his distinctive football-shaped head and optimistic outlook, Arnold navigates the challenges of city life alongside his diverse group of friends. He offers sage advice and helps those around him, often learning valuable life lessons in the process.

Raised by his paternal grandparents, Phil and Gertrude (Grandpa and Grandma), Arnold is known for his calm demeanor and unwavering belief in the goodness of people. He harbors a deep longing to learn more about his parents, who are presumed lost on a humanitarian mission in San Lorenzo. This quest becomes a central theme in Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie.

Arnold's catchphrase is, "Move it, football head!"
