Biography:
Count von Count, often simply referred to as The Count, is a Muppet character from the PBS/HBO children's television show, Sesame Street.
Created by Norman Stiles and originally performed by Jerry Nelson, The Count debuted in the show's fourth season in 1972. Following Nelson's death in 2012, Matt Vogel took over the role.
The Count is characterized by his obsessive compulsion to count everything. His appearance is that of a friendly, purple-skinned vampire, complete with a monocle, formal attire, and exaggerated Transylvanian accent.
His purpose on Sesame Street is primarily educational, teaching children basic numeracy skills. He frequently counts objects presented to him, often accompanied by lightning and thunder sound effects, followed by his signature maniacal laughter. He lives in a dilapidated castle filled with bats, also dedicated counters.
